Program Details
To complete the course we require a high school diploma or GED. Students should also have basic proficiency in using a computer or laptop.
Throughout the program, students will participate in a weekly synchronous Zoom session and attend hands-on lab sessions.
The lab session schedule may vary based on the cohort and instructor, offering either weekly or biweekly sessions.
Upon completing the curriculum, students will begin an externship, with a minimum requirement of 108 hours. The exact externship hours will depend on the site.
Upon successful completion of the medical assistant program, the student will be able to:
- Identify the Medical Assistant Role and Responsibilities.
- Discuss and demonstrate communication skills to effectively collaborate with patients, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
- Understand basic anatomy and physiology.
- Understand and analyze infection control and medical asepsis, OSHA, and the process of sterilization.
- Identify patient safety handling.
- Identify and discuss medical terminology, electronic health records and documentation, and patient identification.
- Summarize office management, including handling patient information confidentially, scheduling appointments, protecting patient privacy, and IPA compliance.
- Demonstrate and recall vital signs and measurements, standard EKG, Visual Acuity Test (Snellen Test), Hearing Test, and patient preparation of medical procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of clinical procedures, including basic laboratory tests, Point of care Testing/ (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) testing, and phlebotomy.
- Gain knowledge of basic pharmacology and medication administration review.
- Demonstrate emergency procedures and First Aid.
